I always wondered... is there a special software for creating pixel art or is it done, say, in MS Paint? I also wondered how it's possible to make good animations if you use such a simple tool as MS Paint.

graphics gale, gimp, photoshop, grafx2, are the most common programs I know for doing animations. Paint isn't an option for doing pixel art anyways.

THis comes from doing a sprite and after that you realize that you have some hours left in which you could squash in an animation.
